The ISP adapter is connected to a PC or Mac through the USB bus. A modern FTDI USB-UART converter handles the communication with the ISP program over a virtual COM port. The target is connected with a 6-pin ISP header with standard Atmel pinout.
CrispAVR-USB V2.2 is STK500 V2 software compatible and can be used with all popular ISP programs, e.g. AVR-Studio, avrdude (comes with WinAVR), uisp, etc.
The ISP adapter is operating system independent and can program all Atmel AVR microcontroller with ISP interface! CrispAVR-USB provides level shifter and supports all target voltages from 1.5V to 5.5V.
Even though the CrispAVR-USB V2.2 isp adapter does not have real control elements, it provides two status LEDs, which signals the active download or e.g. warns in case the ISP adapter was connected reverse. A serial terminal mode offers a rudimentary configuration possibility beyond the normal host software. Detailed information is provided in the Infosheet.
The CrispAVR-USB V2.2 device is sealed in transparent plastic and comes ready-for-use with 40cm ISP cable attached.
USB Teiber
CrispAVR-USB uses an FTDI USB-UART converter for USB connectivity, hence a virtual COM port driver is required. The driver can be used for both CrispAVR-USB V1.2 (with USB mini-B header) and CrispAVR-USB V2.2 (with USB A connector).
